The Purge (2013)

A wealthy family are held hostage inside their own home for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period, once a year, in which any and all crime is legal.

REVIEW: I know a lot of people hate the first movie in The Purge series, but personally I really love it. It's an original horror movie (which is rare these days), and even though it's *just* a home invasion type flick, which I know is why most people don't like it, I love home invasion type flicks so that aspect didn't bother me at all. Plus it's a home invasion type flick with a fresh and unique background to the story, that being the entire idea of the Purge itself.


The movie also had a great sense of atmosphere about it, and the director did a great job with mixing that atmosphere with tension as the movie went on. I know I definitely jumped a couple times throughout, and that's rare these days. Sure, the characters make some stupid decisions, but you need that otherwise there wouldn't even be horror movies to watch. Plus most of the dumb ass decisions came from their annoying-as-anything anti-social dweeb kid so it's a bit easier to swallow when said dumb choices are being done by a kid.


I do wish the movie had gone just a bit further though with the material, had gotten just a bit more wild and crazy, and as you can tell from the previous paragraph I really didn't like the character of the youngest kid (or either child, for that matter), but all in all I do really enjoy The Purge and love revisiting it every year or so when the mood strikes.

  Now that we're at the end of the year, every Site seems to be doing a 'Top 10 Movies of 2011' list and it made me want to do my own - but not some generic list that you can find on any site, that would include mostly all the same films as each other - no, I wanted to do one such list that fits my personal tastes - a list of the 10 Best B-Movies of 2011! Early Review: Zoombies 2 (2019)

Zombie animals rise up yet again in a new animal preserve, threatening those who work there, and the world! REVIEW: The first Zoombies is one of my personal favorite Asylum movies, right behind Age of Dinosaurs , Triassic World , and 6-Headed Shark Attack , so suffice to say I was pretty excited when Asylum sent me a screener copy of Zoombies 2 to review, which up until about a week ago I didn't even know was coming out. For the most part, this movie is entirely stand alone from the first movie, save for one short scene towards the end that ties it directly in (I won't spoil that scene here, but it was definitely an unexpected and fun one). In the middle of Antarctica, a highly maximum security prison called New Alcatraz is fully operational. When a mining crew inside the prison runs across a strange rock formation. REVIEW: After having defeated the alien robot menace at the end of the first Transmorphers , there was only one direction to go for Transmorphers: Fall of Man – back in time . For this outing with the giant killer alien robots, instead of a full-on war movie like the first was, we get to see the original invasion that is talked about in the first movie, so it plays more as a global disaster movie then a war movie, and while I love both of those kinds of movies, it doesn't lend to as much over-the-top silly fun battle scenes.
